Gender Equality in Punjab (India): Reality or Myth

Abstract

Historically all civilizations, women have played very important role as their higher status and efforts done by them in whole world are considerable and indicates the national development. These efforts have created an atmosphere for women where women can take their own decisions as well as for their families. Women empowerment consists of social, economic, political and legal strength of women and Biasness on basis of gender can also affect the relationship between men and women in the society. Any type of discrimination in accessing the opportunities diminishes the chances of growth and its stability of growth. Gender discrimination can also deteriorate other development goals which, in turn, affect development.  This paper attempts to situate the woman in empowered position through sex ratio and literacy rate and work participation scenario
